Nontraditional Children's Book Character Workshop with MacKenzie Haley

Nontraditional Children's Book Character Workshop with MacKenzie Haley In-Person

Louisville-based author and illustrator Mackenzie Haley will lead a 2-hour workshop for teens and adults about Nontraditional Children's Book Character Design, at the Carnegie Center for Art & History.

Haley is award-winning illustrator of popular children's books including LGBTQ-friendly books Sam is My Sister and Patrick’s Polka Dot Tights.

During this talk and hands-on workshop, Haley will speak about her recent projects and her career path, focusing on the process of how she designs unique characters, especially in the context of illustrating two LGBTQ oriented children’s books. And in the hands-on workshop portion, participants will learn to sketch their own characters, with an emphasis on creating unique characters, or characters that represent less frequently seen demographics. A Q & A will round out the program, making this a great opportunity for those interested in learning the basics of children's book illustration practices from a pro.

Registration is required and class size is limited to 15.
