Thursday Night Salon: A Sensory-Filled Evening Inspired by Penny Sisto at 80 In-Person

Our third Thursday Night Salon will be A Sensory-Filled Evening Inspired by Penny Sisto at 80. Wander through the galleries from 6-7:30 p.m. and take in the Penny Sisto at 80 exhibition, while experiencing live music by Cincinnati-based singer and classically trained violinist and harpist, Bailey Miller, and viewing a live durational visual art performance by Louisville-based artist Chelsea Markuson. In the spirit of memory and healing evoked by Sisto’s art, energy healer and motivational speaker Breketa Goodwin will be offering one-on-one oracle readings in our cozy Newkirk gallery. Plus, a make-your-own “mood board” collage booth, and free samples of locally made elderberry tea (a natural healing remedy) by The Elderberry Co! Registration is required.

What is Thursday Night Salon at the Carnegie Center?

Set in the main galleries amidst the art exhibitions, this interactive evening series is intended to foster a sense of community, with a rotating program of conversations, performances, and active art-making. Our first Thursday Night Salon in October 2021 featured a keynote presentation about the Underground Railroad by Louisville-based historian and podcaster Jermaine Fowler, set against the backdrop of the exhibition Hoosier Lifelines: Environmental and Social Change Along the Monon, 1847-2020. Our second Thursday Night Salon in December 2021 occurred during the solo painting exhibition Debra Clem: Surface & Illusion, and featured live performance art by local painter Cynthia Norton, and a roundtable discussion with four local figure painters, including Norton, Clem, LaNia Roberts, and Patrick Smith.
