Lunch and Learn: Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts’ Quarantine Quilt

Lunch and Learn: Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts’ Quarantine Quilt Online

Join Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts' Devyn McIlraith for an online presentation on the Quarantine Quilts project from 2020. In early March 2020 WMQFA launched a collaborative art project meant to encourage artists staying at home during the pandemic to keep creating. This open call invited participants from throughout the world to submit a 12 x 12-inch quilt block documenting their individual and collective experiences. Hear some of the stories sent with individual blocks, learn about the process and project, and view a walkthrough of the exhibition when it was on display in August of 2020. Each block tells the story of family, friends, love, community, support, inward and outward reflections, new hobbies and seasoned expertise, joy, sadness, and shared experiences all through the medium of fiber. Register to receive a Zoom link and join this event online.

Devyn McIlraith is the Collections Manager and Education Coordinator at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts where she also runs Girl Scout programs, documents objects for exhibition, and hoards craft supplies. Previously, Devyn wrote a very long paper on archaeological ceramics through the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where she got her Master's Degree in Archaeology and a certificate in Museum Studies and in her undergrad a BA in Anthropology and a studio art minor. She can be found outside of work analyzing details of a prospective cosplay, reading fantasy books, baking something, or saying hello to other people's dogs while on walks.
