Super Natural Indigo, Upcycled Clothing Dyeing with Daren Redman In-Person

Bring your own upcycled, used t-shirts and dye them with indigo in this free workshop presented by “Form, Not Function” artist Daren Redman. You will be able to turn indigo blue up to 3 cotton t-shirts (long sleeve or short sleeve). All dyes and supplies are included. Wash all of your t-shirts before the class in hot water and any laundry detergent. T-shirts can be pale in color and don’t have to be white. Shop in your closet or at Goodwill or your local resale shop. This workshop is open to ages 16 and up. Registration is required and limited to 20 students.

Workshop attendees should bring:

3 cotton t-shirts (long sleeve or short sleeve)

1 – pack of #10 rubber bands (Staples Store  - 40 in a pack) or CVS (Caliber Assorted Sizes)

Rubber gloves – the dishwashing type

Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting blue indigo dye on.

Lunch and a beverage. Hand sewing/knitting craft or book for downtime between dipping and oxidizing the t-shirts in the indigo.

Daren Redman has been dyeing and teaching indigo and fiber reactive dyes for the past 5 years. She is an artist in this year’s "Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie" exhibition. She has been a Quilt National artist for the past 4 exhibits in Athens, Ohio. She has taught indigo workshops both at the Carnegie Center and Quilt National. Her grandmother and father lived in Louisville, Kentucky. She lives with her husband in Nashville, Indiana. You can find her website at darenredman.com.
