"Our Lady of the Bread Pudding: Vermeer’s Milkmaid and its Catholic Ancestors"
Although it is usually understood as a starkly secular scene, this famous painting is actually the descendent of a tradition of religious iconography that goes back to the Flemish Primitives.
Image: Johannes Vermeer, The Milkmaid, oil on canvas, 1657-8. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Registration has closed.
