The Carnegie Center for Art and History is pleased to have Greg Sekula, Director of the Southern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks, present during September’s virtual edition of Lunch and Learn. This day’s talk is based on a book by Indiana Landmarks, entitled Rescued and Restored. Too often we hear about wonderful old buildings that should have been saved and were not. Rescued and Restored, features over 50 historic places across Indiana that were snatched from the wrecking ball or lifted from decades of neglect and restored with the help from Indiana Landmarks.
Dramatic before-and-after photographs and inspirational comeback stories show the remarkable turnaround of endangered places as diverse as the oldest house in Wabash to the West Baden Springs Hotel which rose from a ruinous collapse to a fairy-tale castle, lifting an entire regional economy. Structures from the Southern Indiana area will be highlighted.
Since 2002, Greg Sekula has held the position of Director of the Southern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks. He holds a degree in Historic Preservation from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, and is a past Fellow of the National Trust for Historic Preservation under its PROJECT PREPARE Program which documented the impact of smart growth initiatives in New England during the growth period of the 1980s. Greg Sekula is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
As Director of the Southern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks, Greg and his staff cover a 14-county area in south central Indiana and provide technical assistance and advocacy to owners of historic properties and preservation organizations in the region. Greg serves on the Board of Directors of the Cardinal Ritter Birthplace Foundation, Clark County Museum, and the Ohio River Scenic Byway and is a past board member of Develop New Albany.
