Virtual Discovery Friday: Rosa Parks

Virtual Discovery Friday: Rosa Parks In-Person

Join us for Discovery Friday!  Each week we'll have an exciting presentation or hands-on activity.  This week we'll have a craft project from Laura Wilkins of The Floyd County Library.  We will be reading "Rosa", written by Nikki Giovanni and illustrated by Bryan Collier, and learning about civil rights activist Rosa Parks. Then we will show you how to make a Rosa Parks wreath, using pictures of things that remind us of Rosa Parks' life and the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott. Be sure to print out the cutouts sheet attached to this event!

For this activity, you will need:

Printed Rosa Parks wreath cutouts sheet (white cardstock will be best if you have it, white printer paper is fine too!)
Paper plate
Scissors
Scotch tape or glue
Markers, crayons, or colored pencils

Discovery Friday is recommended for elementary students and is a great educational opportunity for homeschooling families.
