This half-day art-making workshop is for children ages 7 – 10 years old. In it, they will be learning the Japanese art of indigo-dyeing, inspired by the work of Elmer Lucille Allen, who will join at lunchtime as guest of honor. School’s Out, Shibori’s In workshop will begin with a tour of the current art exhibition, The Art of Elmer Lucille Allen, Sandra Charles, and Barbara Tyson Mosley. Workshop attendees will be inspired by the patterns, colors, and textures of the paintings and fiber art on display, and will use what they learn to create their own works of art using natural fiber and indigo dye. Traditional Shibori folding, sewing, and dyeing techniques will be explored alongside a lesson in the history of the indigo plant. A morning snack will be provided, but attendees must bring their own sack lunches. This workshop has a limited capacity.
