🌞 Sun & Moon Weavings with Mosaic Skies:
Inspired by Aztec Art of Mexico and Central America In-Person

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a colorful, hands-on journey into the art and symbolism of ancient Mesoamerica. Inspired by Aztec depictions of the sun and moon, this workshop invites students to explore the vibrant traditions of Mexico and Central America through yarn weaving and mosaic-making.

Following a brief cultural introduction, participants will use paper looms and a variety of yarns to weave their own radiant sun or mysterious moon, exploring color theory through warm, cool, monochromatic, and analogous palettes. Once woven, students will draw expressive celestial faces in the Aztec style, adding personality and historical flair to their artwork.

To complete their mixed-media masterpiece, each student will design a paper mosaic background representing either a day or night sky, using cut paper tiles in bold, symbolic colors.

This engaging session is perfect for upper elementary students, tweens, and teens,  looking to blend creativity with cultural appreciation. This class a celebration of personal expression and heritage through the power of art.
