Art History Illustrated, Welcome to the Present: Contemporary Art that Moves In-Person
Kinetic art has been an especially important thread through the Contemporary period (1980 to the present). A lot has happened since the mobiles of Alexander Calder! With art historian Brenda Edgar, be moved by the works of Mark Pauline, who creates violent automata and uses them in live performances. See how boundaries are being pushed by Eduardo Kac, who has bioengineered a rabbit that fluoresces under blue light, and a robot powered by amoebas. You’ll discuss the impact that digital technology and artificial intelligence have had on the genre, and much, much more! This program is intended for adults.
Join us for our “Art History Illustrated” talk series, held the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. This monthly illustrated talk series is presented by art historian Brenda Edgar, in collaboration with The Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center.
