Lunch and Learn: Getting to Know Bourbon, with Cliff Travis

Lunch and Learn: Getting to Know Bourbon, with Cliff Travis In-Person

All bourbon is whiskey – but not all whiskey is bourbon. Learn the difference in our next Lunch and Learn when our speaker, Cliff Travis, discusses his new book, “Getting to Know Bourbon - How to Be the Life of the Party and Not the Reason the Police are Called”. Cliff’s book is at the printer’s and will be released in the early fall.

With a Master’s Degree in Communication and career as a trial lawyer, Cliff is a storyteller. His “bourbon book” follows detailed research (both first hand and through “hitting the books”) about the history of bourbon, how it is made, its impact on society and its importance to our nation’s treasury. Cliff promises stories about the colorful characters and industrial giants connected to bourbon over its history. He also promises to tell us “the short version” of how bourbon is made - without complicated discussions of chemistry and mathematics.

The bourbon industry is one of the most heavily-regulated industries in the United States. Cliff’s book unravels “bourbon laws”, as his presentation provides insight into government involvement with bourbon from the Whiskey Rebellion (America’s first “war” following the American Revolution) through Prohibition – including his take on the argument against Jack Daniel’s Whiskey not being bourbon. He will also share an easy “memory device” for correctly spelling “whiskey/whisky” both with and without an “e”.
