Juneteenth Jazz Concert

Juneteenth Jazz Concert In-Person

Join us at the Carnegie Center for Art & History for a free concert celebrating Juneteenth with the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet on Friday, June 16th at 12:00 PM. All ages are welcome, and  registration is encouraged. The audience is invited to participate in a conversation about "what is jazz?" and how Juneteenth and jazz go hand in hand.

On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to bring the news that the Civil War had ended and to ensure all enslaved people were freed. As the news spread, so too did the celebrations – Juneteenth, also known as Jubilee Day, Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, was born.

The Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet consists of Jamey Aebersold on sax, Wade Honey on piano, Tyrone Wheeler on bass, and Jonathan Higgins on drums.
