En Plein Air Drawing Outside the Carnegie!

En Plein Air Drawing Outside the Carnegie! In-Person

Join us this summer for drawing out front of the Carnegie! Bring a blanket or use a drawing horse; we invite you to let the world around you inspire you. Pencils and paper are provided by the Carnegie. All are welcome to bring and use additional mediums of your choice!  Please notify us of any access needs you may require for this outdoor event.

In the event of rain we invite guests to congregate under the covered porch of the Carnegie Center's main entrance, or to draw inside the galleries! Any medium is allowed for outdoor drawing, but for drawing in the gallery space we ask that patrons follow these guidelines:

  • The only media allowed for sketching are pencils (no softer than a 4B graphite pencil), Conte crayons, and colored pencils.
  • The following media are NOT permitted: charcoal, oil pastel, felt-tip marker, pastels, ink, fountain pens, fixatives, and sprays of any type.
  • We request sketch pads smaller than 24”x36”.
  • Individuals sketching should remain a minimum of five feet away from the artwork.
  • Easels are not permitted in our galleries.
